<h2>The RAI's Education Outreach Programme has launched a new website called <a href="http://www.discoveranthropology.org.uk">Discover Anthropology</a></h2>

<h2><p><a href="http://www.discoveranthropology.org.uk">Discover Anthropology</a> is an educational site for anyone curious about anthropology and wanting to learn more about the subject. The website provides information on studying anthropology, careers, volunteer and gap year experiences, museums, events and educational resources for students, teachers, career advisors and the general public.</p>

				<title>Wales Anthropology Day!</title>

				<description><![CDATA[ <h2>27th June 2008, University of Wales, Lampeter</h2>
<p>Another chance to get a taste of anthropology! <a href="http://www.lamp.ac.uk/archanth/index.htm">The University of Wales, Lampeter</a> in association with the <a href="http://www.therai.org.uk/education/index.html">Royal Anthropological Institute</a> is organising a special Wales Anthropology Day on the 27th June 2007. Like the London Anthropology day, it will consist of lots of different workshops run by anthropologists to give you a chance to get a feeling for the full range of topics anthropology covers. The workshops will be run by staff and students from Lampeter as well as from Cardiff, Aberystwyth and Sheffield.  Workshops will include "You are what you eat: the anthropology of food," "Understanding the dead: the role of forensic anthropology," and "Body Talk: Sexuality, Tatoos and Body Modification."  One of the sessions will be hosted by BBC staff who worked on the <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/tribe/">TRIBE</a> series (BBC Wales). <h3>Want to find out more about anthropology and have a good night out?</h3>

<p>In the week of the anniversary of Ghana’s independence, the Royal Anthropological Institute’s <em>Discover Anthropology</em> outreach programme brings you a special evening of film screenings by visual anthropologists and a chance to explore the October Gallery’s exhibition “From Courage to Freedom” of work by 3 West African artists.</p>

<p>Main screening 7-8pm: <em>Future Remembrance: Photography and Image Arts in Ghana</em> by visual anthropologists Tobias Wendl and Nancy du Plessis.</p>

<p>This documentary explores the social, economic and spiritual aspects of the work of Ghanaian photographers, sculptors and painters, ranging from the elaborate backdrops created by studio photographers to the powerful life-size sculptures commissioned by families who want to remember their dead loved ones.</p>

<p>After the main screening visitors can watch short films on Ghana by anthropology students, explore the gallery and chat to anthropologists.</p>

<p>As part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science the Royal Anthropological Institute is opening up its meeting room to show a collection of films from its film library everyday from 12th-16th March at 4pm.</p>

<p><em>Adhiambo - Born in the Evening</em><br/>
Ruth Prince, Wenzel Geissler, Ruth Tuchtenhagen, 66 Minutes, 2001
</p>

<p>An intimate account of a woman's life, motherhood, children and illness in rural western Kenya, which also provides an insight into the nature of ethnographic fieldwork and medical anthropology.  Wenzel Geissler and Ruth Prince will be on hand to talk about the making and use of the film.</p>

<h3>Tuesday 13th March</h3>

<p><em>Trobriand Cricket: An Ingenious Response to Colonialism</em><br/>
Gary Kildea and Jerry Leach, 50 Minutes, 1974</p>

<p>This multi-awarding film commissioned by a local political organisation explores the link between sport and politics in Papua New Guinea where the game of cricket first introduced by British Missionaries was transformed into a political ritual. </p>

<h3>Wednesday 14th March</h3>

<p><em>Sisters in Law</em><br/>
Kim Longinotto, Florence Ayisi, 104 minutes, 2005</p>

<p/>Set in Cameroon, Sisters in Law is a warm, involving portrayal of the work of the Vera and Beatrice, a female State Counsel and Court President as they try to help women to change their lives. This film was recently screened as part of More4’s TRUE STORIES. Kin Longinotto is known for her insightful, compassionate studies of women’s lives, and the pull between tradition and change.</p> 

<h3>Thursday 15th March </h3>

<p><em>Steel Lives</em><br/>
Massimilliano Mollona, 49 minutes, 2001</p>

<p>This documentary demonstrates that anthropology is not only concerned with “far way” places and people as it looks into the working lives of men in what remains of the Sheffield Steel Industry.</p> 


<h3>Friday 16th March</h3>

<p><em>Duka’s Dilemma</em><br/>
Jean Lydall, Kaira Strecker, 87 minutes, 2001</p>

<p>Jean Lydall has been making films with the Hamar community of southern Ethiopia since the 1970s. In 2001 she returned with her daughter and grandson to follow the continuing life story of Duka, whose husband had taken a second wife. </p>
