Want to find out more about anthropology and have a good night out?

In the week of the anniversary of Ghana’s independence, the Royal Anthropological Institute’s Discover Anthropology outreach programme brings you a special evening of film screenings by visual anthropologists and a chance to explore the October Gallery’s exhibition “From Courage to Freedom” of work by 3 West African artists.

Main screening 7-8pm: Future Remembrance: Photography and Image Arts in Ghana by visual anthropologists Tobias Wendl and Nancy du Plessis.

This documentary explores the social, economic and spiritual aspects of the work of Ghanaian photographers, sculptors and painters, ranging from the elaborate backdrops created by studio photographers to the powerful life-size sculptures commissioned by families who want to remember their dead loved ones.

After the main screening visitors can watch short films on Ghana by anthropology students, explore the gallery and chat to anthropologists.
